p.s. facebook (or, on communicating in the vernacular)
in regards to my last post where I said the daily minutia of my life would be on twitter, I should clarify that most of what I post to twitter (and now tumblr, as well) is broadcast to facebook, so there is no reason to adopt that network if you have not and do not wish to do so. I do not post tweets ladened with @’s and #’s because readers on facebook have no desire to attempt to translate a different format, nor should they have to, since they have chosen which medium suits them best.
here’s the analogy I like to use: I am the social networking equivalent of multilingual, and will address you in your native tongue because that makes you more comfortable and by doing so, we can have a more meaningful conversation. different social networks have different norms, and so they are effectively and necessarily different ways of communicating, not unlike different languages.I want to communicate with you, so I do not expect you to learn another “language” to accommodate me to that end.*
basically it comes down to this, my goal is to keep in touch with people through the means they wish to use….hence my use of an abundance of social networking avenues.
*and, yes, I wish I was better at actually learning other languages, but that starts us off on a whole other post topic.
